It was reported last year that a sequel to Amazon MGM Studios' Road House, starring Jake Gyllenhaal is in the making. It has now been revealed that Guy Ritchie has come on board to direct the film which will see the Donnie Darko actor reprise his role as ex-UFC fighter Dalton.
The upcoming film will be the third collaboration between Ritchie and Gyllenhaal and second for Amazon MGM Studios after The Covenant and the upcoming action thriller In The Grey.
While details about the plot and rest of the cast are under wraps, Will Beall, known for Bad Boys: Ride or Die and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is penning the script for the sequel. The first film, released in 2024, was directed by Doug Liman and written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry. It was a reboot of the 1989 classic headlined by Patrick Swayze. While reviews for the reboot were mixed, the film went on to become a commercial success for the platform.
Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are producing for Atlas Entertainment, alongside Gyllenhaal and Josh McLaughlin of Nine Stories Productions. Ivan Atkinson will executive produce.
Guy Ritchie's recent credits include Wrath of Man (2021), Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023), The Covenant (2023), The Gentlemen for Netflix and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare in 2024. Up next, he has Wife and Dog and In the Grey in post production. Later this year, he has Fountain of Youth, starring John Krasinski and Natalie Portman, up for release. He also serves as the executive producer for Prime Video’s upcoming series Young Sherlock.
