For the last few days, a stalemate had been continuing over the release of the big-budget film Peddi, with the Telangana Exhibitors Association insisting that the film should release under the percentage-sharing system. A couple of days ago, several industry representatives, including exhibitors, producers, and distributors, met Chiranjeevi to discuss the issue. During the meeting, Chiranjeevi assured them that the percentage system would be implemented from July 3 onwards. With this assurance, all hurdles for Peddi have now been cleared, and the film will release under the existing rental system.
The exhibitors informed Chiranjeevi that the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC), the apex body of the Telugu film industry, had been delaying a decision on the issue for nearly a year. However, following Chiranjeevi’s intervention, the newly formed TFCC committee has now agreed to arrive at a final solution by June 30.
The ongoing dispute in the Telugu film industry regarding the theatre rental and percentage-sharing systems has finally reached a conclusion. With Chiranjeevi stepping in, the path has now been cleared for the smooth release of the upcoming big-budget film Peddi. In this regard, the Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce (TSFCC) released an official statement on Wednesday.
Representatives of the Film Chamber held detailed discussions with Chiranjeevi regarding the issues faced by Telangana exhibitors. During the meeting, Chiranjeevi responded positively to the exhibitors’ demands. He assured them that he would personally monitor the meetings and progress of the special sub-committee formed by the Executive Committee of the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce. He also promised that justice would be done to exhibitors within the deadline fixed by the sub-committee.
Following Chiranjeevi’s strong assurance, Telangana exhibitors agreed to withdraw their protest. Keeping the welfare of the industry in mind, they announced that they would cooperate to ensure the smooth release of Peddi without any obstacles. They also agreed to abide by the points mentioned in the letter circulated by the Telugu Film Chamber.
As per the agreement, complete clarity on the new percentage-sharing model will be finalised before June 30, 2026. The new system will come into effect across the state from July 3, 2026.
“The old rental system in theatres will be completely abolished from July 3. From that date onwards, all films releasing in theatres will be screened only under the percentage-sharing model,” clarified VL Sridhar, secretary of the Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce, in the official press note.
Peddi is slated for release on June 4. The film stars Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles and is directed by Buchi Babu Sana. It is produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru under the Vriddhi Cinemas banner, while leading production house Mythri Movie Makers, along with Sukumar Writings, is presenting the film. The team has been aggressively promoting Peddi across multiple cities including Mumbai, Bhopal, and Bengaluru, and is planning to continue the promotional tour in more cities over the coming days.
