Director Buchi Babu Sana's Peddi, starring Ram Charan in the lead role, opened in theatres on June 04 to mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Despite this audience reception, the film has grossed 181.8 crore from theatres worldwide, its production banner Vriddhi Cinemas announced earlier this Saturday. According to the box office tracker Sacnilk, the film minted 51 crore from theatres on release day, but it dropped to 26.90 crore on Friday. According to reports, the film is made on a budget of 350 crore. Therefore, the Peddi box office collection might have to go up by a few more notches for the makers to recover the production cost, depending on how the digital deal for the film goes.

Set in a rural area of Andhra Pradesh in the 1980s, Peddi follows a spirited man (Ram Charan) who brings his community together through sports so that they can defend against a strong rival. The film also stars Janhvi Kapoor, Shivarajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, and Divyenndu, among others.

Produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru under the Vriddhi Cinemas banner, Peddi has music by AR Rahman, cinematography by Ratnavelu, editing by Navin Nooli, and production design by Avinash Kolla.

In our review, Suresh Kavirayani wrote, "Buchi Babu Sana has written a story that revolves around three sporting disciplines — cricket, wrestling, and para sports — through the journey of the protagonist... Buchi Babu combines elements of all these sports but misses the most important ingredient — emotion. The story did not require three different sports and could have worked effectively with just one. Instead, the protagonist moves from one sport to another rather abruptly, without sufficient emotional or narrative justification."

Meanwhile, the film has courted controversy for the objectification of Janhvi Kapoor, and director Buchi Babu Sana has apologised for it following the backlash.
