Murali Mohan is among the senior actors in Telugu cinema and has been actively associated with the industry for over five decades. He made his debut as a lead actor with Jagame Maya in 1973 and continues to act even today. The 85-year-old actor — also a producer, businessman, and politician — has now been honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri Award by the Government of India.
On the occasion, Murali Mohan expressed his gratitude to the Chief Ministers of both Telugu states and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “I am extremely happy that the Central Government has honoured me with the Padma Shri. Since Sunday evening, many people have been calling me and saying that this award should have come much earlier. I tell them—maybe it came late, but it has come at the right time,” he said.
Reflecting on the journey, Murali Mohan added, “Not everything happens when we expect it to. Sometimes, the wait makes the honour even more meaningful. I sincerely thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, and the stalwarts of the film industry for this recognition.”
Murali Mohan’s contribution to Telugu cinema spans more than 50 years. Since his debut, he has acted in over 350 films, earning a reputation as one of Tollywood’s most disciplined and versatile actors. Whether in lead roles, supporting characters, or negative roles, he has always left a lasting impression. During the 1980s, his family-oriented roles earned him immense popularity, particularly among women audiences.
Apart from acting, Murali Mohan has produced several films under his banner, Jayabheri Arts. Even in his 80s, he continues to inspire the younger generation as a fitness icon. His journey consists of his transformation from an actor to a businessman, to a politician, and to a philanthropist.
