There are performances that demand physical preparation, and then there are those that require an actor to carry a scene long after the director calls cut. For Mahima Nambiar, Mandaadi appears to have fallen into the latter category. The actor has now opened up about how some of the film's emotionally demanding portions affected her even after she stepped away from the set.
The intensity of the film was not limited to its subject. Set against the world of boat racing and the lives of people connected to it, Mandaadi required its cast to work within a physically challenging environment while also dealing with scenes driven by grief, conflict and personal stakes. The film's water-based sequences have subsequently emerged as one of its most discussed aspects following its theatrical release.
In a note shared after the film's release, Mahima thanked the Mandaadi team and recalled the emotional toll of shooting certain scenes. The actor revealed that there were moments when she would return from filming, call home and break down after what she had just performed.
Director Mathimaran Pugazhendi's film stars Soori, Suhas and Mahima alongside Sathyaraj, Ravindra Vijay and others. Produced by Elred Kumar under RS Infotainment, the film has cinematography by S Kathir, editing by Pradeep E Ragav and music by GV Prakash Kumar.
The production itself had its share of challenges even before the film reached theatres. A boat used during the shoot capsized in October 2025, reportedly resulting in the loss of equipment, before production eventually resumed and wrapped in April 2026. The film's sea-based setting consequently demanded considerable logistical and physical effort from the team.
The response to Mandaadi since its September 10 release has similarly centred on its emotional and physical intensity. Early audience reactions have singled out Soori and Suhas' performances, while the boat-racing portions and the climax have emerged as major talking points. The film has also been praised for the immersive quality of its water-based sequences.
