Imtiaz Ali has been having an eventful couple of years now. After the critical and commercial failures of films such as Jab Harry Met Sejal (2017) and Love Aaj Kal (2022), audiences feared that their visionary filmmaker might have lost his Midas touch. However, Imtiaz made a comeback of sorts with 2024's Amar Singh Chamkila, a biopic on the musician of the same name, and an even bigger return to form with this year's Partition-era love story Main Vaapas Aaunga.
Imtiaz Ali is yet to announce his next film after Main Vaapas Aaunga. Meanwhile, there are reports suggesting that Sharvari and Vedang Raina, the two stars of his 2026 love story, might reunite with the filmmaker for another project. This speculation awaits official confirmation.
The director had also confirmed a project with Fahadh Faasil in a recent roundtable discussion with The Hollywood Reporter India, but it has now been shelved.
"I want to work with Fahadh Faasil. We tried to do one film together but the project did not materialise. We are in touch with each other, and I think that, 'dono taraf hai aag barabar lagi hui'. At some point of time, I will have the pleasure of working with Fahadh," the filmmaker said, addressing the press and media, at the Jagran Film Festival in Mumbai.
Despite Imtiaz expressing optimism about a project with Fahadh Faasil, it is worth noting that the actor has a busy lineup of films in the near future. Last seen in the Telugu film Don't Trouble The Trouble, Fahadh's upcoming projects include Karate Chandran, a yet-untitled project with '96 and Meiyazhagan filmmaker C Prem Kumar, Torpedo with Thudarum fame Tharun Moorthy, and a film with Drishyam director Jeethu Joseph.
