As Venkat Prabhu's GOAT clocks 2, the filmmaker took to X to share a nostalgic video of his experience collaborating with actor-turned-chief minister Vijay. While the glimpse starts with the first-day-first-show of the film and the audience's cheer for their favourite star, the video further juxtaposes scenes from the film with Vijay's stint as CM.

The video also features a callback to the now-iconic ‘TN07 CM 2026’ number plate, which Venkat Prabhu had previously shared, with the filmmaker taking pride in what he believes was a prediction of Vijay’s political victory. The clip ends with Sanjay, Vijay’s younger character in GOAT, declaring, “You think you can stop me?” before cutting to visuals of Vijay in his role as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.

Released on September 5, 2024, The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) marked Vijay’s penultimate film before his full-time political entry and his first collaboration with director Venkat Prabhu. The action thriller follows Gandhi (Vijay), a member of the Special Anti-Terrorist Squad, whose past comes back to haunt him years after leaving active service. The film also featured Vijay in a dual role, with Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Sneha, Jayaram, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Ajmal and others in the cast.

Produced by AGS Entertainment, the film became a major commercial success despite receiving a mixed critical response. It opened strongly at the worldwide box office, crossing Rs 200 crore within its first three days, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film eventually grossed over Rs 450 crore worldwide, with Tamil Nadu and overseas markets driving a significant share of its theatrical run.

Beyond its espionage storyline, GOAT became notable for its extensive fan service and references to Vijay’s filmography. The film also drew attention for its use of de-ageing technology and an AI-assisted recreation of late actor Vijayakanth. The film is now available to stream on Netflix.
