On Sunday, cinematographer GK Vishnu took to his official X handle to share a photo of himself in front of a brand new Mahindra BE6 Batman edition. He captioned the photo, "Just God things!! Thank you, Suriya sir. You have a huge heart!!!!" (sic), indicating that Suriya gifted the car to the technician for his work in the actor's latest box-office hit, Karuppu.
Karuppu, which hit theatres on May 15, has earned nearly Rs 300 crore globally, with the India box office alone accounting for Rs 200 crore. The film, helmed by RJ Balaji, recently became the 22nd film in history to cross the Rs 100 crore mark in Tamil Nadu, ending a drought in the state that had lasted since August 2025. Karuppu also became the first Suriya film to cross the landmark in the state.
Despite its box office success, Karuppu, which marks the first collaboration between RJ Balaji and Suriya, opened to middling reviews. While the hero elevation sequences and Suriya's performance were lauded, the screenplay dip in the second half and convenient writing choices were criticised.
Karuppu also stars RJ Balaji, Trisha, Indrans, Swasika, Supreeth Reddy, Sshivada, Anagha Maya Ravi, and Natty Subramaniam, among others. The film features music composed by Sai Abhyankkar and editing by R Kalaivanan.
An excerpt from the CE review of the film reads, "Karuppu has a lot going for it, especially a rock-solid Suriya and a much-improved RJ Balaji. However, it ends up a bit all over the place because it moved away from its own tenets and ends up needing an intervention to remind everyone involved that a God complex helps no one in cinema."
GK Vishnu made his feature debut as a DOP with Atlee's Mersal and followed it up with Bigil. He is also known for his work in Ravanasura and Jawan, among other films. His work in Karuppu was particularly appreciated and acclaimed by audiences and critics alike. Up next, he is set to reunite with Atlee for his project with Allu Arjun, titled Raaka.
