29, the latest directorial venture of director-writer Rathna Kumar, is all set for its OTT premiere a month after its release. Starring Vidhu and Preethi Asrani in lead roles, the film hit theatres on May 8 and opened to largely positive reviews.

Vidhu stars as Sathya, who at the age of 29, finds himself adrift, struggling with questions about his identity, purpose, and where he truly belongs. His life takes an unexpected turn when he crosses paths with Viji (Preethi), whose presence brings a new perspective to his uncertain world. As Sathya becomes increasingly consumed by self-doubt and existential turmoil, Viji emerges as a guiding force who may help him confront the questions that have long haunted him.

The film is all set to premiere on Netflix on June 5. 29 also stars Mahendran, Shehnaz Fathima, Avinash and Prem in key roles. The film is produced by Kaarthikeyan S of Stone Bench Creations, the label that also involves filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj and director Lokesh Kanagaraj under the G Squad banner.

An excerpt from CE's review of 29 reads, "The soul of the film is undoubtedly Sean Roldan’s music, and it is beautiful how his decision to let silence do the singing comes through. The way music has been used in the film is a big plus for 29. Another strong facet of the film is its production design, which bolsters the writing in wonderfully encapsulating the idea of ‘90s kids without resorting to stereotypes." The film has music by Sean Roldan, cinematography by Madhesh Manickam, and editing by RS Sathish Kumar.

The film marks a directorial comeback for Rathna Kumar after 2022's Gulu Gulu, starring Santhanam and Namita Krishnamurthy. Since then, the filmmaker has been working on multiple projects in different capacities, including as a co-writer and a dialogue writer on films starring Vijay, Suriya, Kamal Haasan, and Rajinikanth.
