On Monday, the pre-release event of Suriya's Karuppu took place in Hyderabad. The event was graced by actor-director RJ Balaji and Suriya, along with director Venky Atluri, who directs Suriya's Vishwanath & Sons, and Karthi, actor and Suriya's brother.
Speaking at the event, Karthi said only Suriya could pull off the role in Karuppu. He started his speech with a quip, saying, "Actually, I was busy shooting, but they told me Rolex was here. I dropped by to say hi to him", eliciting laughter.
Karthi then went on to praise RJ Balaji for Suriya's look in the film. "I was so amazed when I first saw the poster of Karuppu with Suriya holding a sickle and a cigar. Thank you, Balaji, for that particular look of Anna. Just love the way you've portrayed him in this film. Karuppu is a mass-entertaining masala film. It will also be hilarious because of Balaji's ability to write humour in unexpected situations," he shared.
Moving on to Sai Abhyankkar, the film's music composer, he said, "When Sai Abhyankkar first came into the film, I wondered how someone who composes for the Gen Z crowd can compose for a film like this. But I was taken by wonder from the 'God Mode' song itself. I had heard of 'Beast Mode', but I had never heard of 'God Mode', which made me enjoy it even more."
The actor then spoke about his brother, Suriya, and why his performance reminded him of Baahubali. "I watched a few shots and scenes of Anna in the film. Nobody else can carry this kind of role in God mode; only Anna can do it. It is absolute mass. Watching him perform, I was taken back to Baahubali, where Prabhas carries an entire Sivalinga. Only some people can carry such an aura."
Lastly, Karthi seconded RJ Balaji's remark about the film not being made for people on social media. "I'm really looking forward to this film. I am planning to watch it in Telugu as I'm going to be here when it releases. It is a film made for the theatres, not for people online, as Balaji said. It is made for the lot of us who celebrate cinema."
Karuppu also stars Trisha, Sshivada, Swasika, Yogi Babu, Anagha Maaya Ravi, Supreeth Reddy, and Indrans, among others. The film, with cinematography by GK Vishnu and editing by Kalaivanan, is all set to hit theatres on May 14.
