Dhanush's latest film Kara released amid much anticipation on Friday. Helmed by Vignesh Raja in his sophomore directorial, the film sees Dhanush playing Karasaami aka Kara, a robber during the Gulf War of 1991 which leads to a fuel crises in Tamil Nadu, forcing him to battle for his sustenance.
While the film has opened in theatres with a strong start at the box office, earning close to Rs 6 crores, Kara has been receiving criticism for Mamitha Baiju's limited screentime. The Premalu actor plays Selli, Dhanush's wife in the heist thriller.
Taking to their social media handles, fans have been expressing their disappointment over the actor's role in the movie, noting that although her presence was impactful, Mamitha's brief appearance left them wanting more and feeling that her character deserved greater depth and prominence in the narrative.
Kara has been written by Vignesh Raja as well as Alfred Prakash. An excerpt from our CE review of the film reads, "For the longest time, Kara gets this balance right, but once the petty thief decides to take a turn to become something bigger, like a hero… the film sacrifices itself for the seemingly greater good. However, it is anything but that, and Kara risks becoming the equivalent of pledging your land to buy a tractor during the Gulf War."
The cast also features Jayaram as Muthu Selvan, KS Ravikumar as Kandhasaami, Suraj Venjaramoodu as Bharathan, and Karunaas as Kasi Maayan, Sreeja Ravi as Dhanam, and Prithvi Pandiarajan as Murugesan. MS Bhaskar is also part of the film.
