Days after filing for divorce, actor-politician Vijay's wife Sankgeetha has filed a fresh plea at the Chengalpattu District Court seeking an order directing Vijay to allow her to stay at the Neelankarai house until the divorce is finalised or until Vijay provides equivalent alternative accommodation.

Sankgeetha, who has been married with Vijay since 1999, filed for divorce on February 27 based on irreconcilable differences, allegations of adultry, and mental strain.

In the latest plea, she sought the order while mentioning that she doesn't have a house in Chennai as she holds a British citizenship and lives in London. Sankgeetha further argued that without a court order, she may be denied access to the residence, which would cause hardship, and is therefore seeking temporary protection from being removed from the house.

Sankgeetha further stated that throughout the marriage she fulfilled the role of a dedicated homemaker and spouse, prioritising the well-being of the family and ensuring the smooth running of the home while Vijay provided them with a comfortable lifestyle and took care of them.

However, in her divorce petition Sankgeetha alleged that Vijay had an extramarital affair with an unnamed actress in 2021. The petition also alleged that Sankgeetha was neglected mentally, emotionally, and physically. It also mentions that she was subjected to verbal disdain.

Sankgeetha mentioned that her financial freedom was restricted, including the restriction of free movement. In November 2025, Sankgeetha had the last of two discussions to explore a mutually honourable exit from their marriage. But an amicable resolution could not be derived, she said in the latest petition. It also says that the actor, through his advocate, made it clear that she would not be permitted inside his matrimonial home if she chooses to pursue for divorce legally.

Following Sankgeetha's request for alimony, it is being reported that the actor may pay around Rs 250 crore in an out-of-court settlement and is expected to take care of their children. A confirmation is awaited on the same.

Although Sankgeetha and Vijay got married in 1999, their marriage was registered first in the United Kingdom, in 1998. They have two children Jason Sanjay, a director, and Divya Sasha.

Since their marriage, Vijay had largely kept his personal life private, with photographs of the actor and his family rarely seen on public platforms. However, news of the divorce has brought the spotlight on their marital life, stirring discussions and debates on social media.
