Actor Suriya has opened up about his experience of working with Malayalam filmmaker Jithu Madhavan on his upcoming Tamil film Scene, revealing that he had hoped to collaborate with the filmmaker, whose works Romancham and Aavesham he admires. The actor was speaking at the film’s pre-release event in Dubai, ahead of its November 6 theatrical release.

“I had quietly manifested the opportunity to work with Jithu, the director of Romancham and Aavesham, because I really love his work. I never imagined it would happen so soon!” Suriya said.

Suriya: Scene draws a parallel between Kaakha Kaakha and Singam

Recalling the moment Jithu narrated the story to him, the actor said he was drawn into it within minutes. “He narrated the story to me. I'm usually a fairly quiet listener when someone narrates a story. But within five minutes, I found myself breaking into laughter and thoroughly enjoying it!” he shared.

Scene marks Jithu Madhavan’s Tamil directorial debut and brings him together with composer Sushin Shyam, who is also making his Tamil cinema debut with the film. Suriya, who plays a police officer in the film, stars alongside Nazriya and Naslen, with the latter making his debut in Tamil cinema. The film is produced by Suriya and Jyotika under their Zhagaram Studios and 2D Entertainment banners.

Speaking about his co-stars, Suriya praised Nazriya’s performance and the character she plays in the film. “As always, Jithu has created a new world with his distinctive style and brilliant performances. Nazriya brings so much to the film with her natural performance and screen presence. Her character, Maya, is so beautifully written and fully realised. What more can I say? She's done a wonderful job,” he said.

The actor also welcomed Naslen to Tamil cinema, expressing his hope that the Malayalam actor would continue to be part of more Tamil films. “And a warm welcome to our incredibly talented Naslen, who is making his debut in Tamil cinema with this film. I hope you go on to do many more Tamil films. I've seen your work, and I'm really looking forward to seeing more of you. Thank you for the magic you've brought to this film,” he said.

Suriya also acknowledged the work of the film’s technical crew, noting that several members were making their Tamil cinema debut with the project. “I'd also like to thank every member of the crew. This is the first Tamil film for several people involved in the project, including our music team, cinematographer, choreographer and editor. You'll get to meet them all and hear their stories at the upcoming events, but I wanted to share a few thoughts about them today,” he added.

Scene is slated to hit theatres on November 6, coinciding with Deepavali.
