We had reported last year that Silambarasan and Santhanam, known for their hit camaraderie in several films, were coming together for STR 49, Ramkumar Balakrishnan's sophomore film after Parking. However, the film did not move ahead after the initial announcement. But their combo might be returning after all as speculations are rife that he will be joining the cast of Ashwath Marimuthu's STR 51. A confirmation on the same is awaited.
For the unversed, STR 51 was announced last year with a glimpse video that showed Silambarasan playing 'God of Love'. Expected to be a fantasy rom-com, details about the plot and extended cast have been kept under wraps. Updates about the film has been scarce as Silambarasan is currently shooting for Vetri Maaran's Arasan following which the Dragon filmmaker will begin production for STR 51. The makers are yet to reveal the film's title, but Ashwath recently said that it would begin with 'I'.
Last year, the director also dismissed rumours about Silambarasan's behaviour and shared key details about the genre. "The adrenaline rush that you witnessed in Dragon and the love that you felt in Oh My Kaduvule will be seen in this film. At the same time, the Simbu that you saw during his peak years in films like Kuthu, Dum and Manmadhan will be seen here in a movie that satisfies all audience." The upcoming film is backed by AGS Entertainment.
Silambarasan much-anticipated film Arasan belongs to the world of Vada Chennai. Besides the actor, Arasan also stars Vijay Sethupathi along with Andrea Jeremiah, reprising her role as Chandra from Vada Chennai, and Yogalakshmi. Samuthirakani is also back as Guna, along with Kishore as Senthil.
Santhanam and Silambarasan's collaborations go back to early 2000s starting with Kadhal Azhivathillai (2002). Later, they joined hands for Manmadhan (2004), Vallavan (2006), Kaalai (2008), Silambattam (2008), Vaanam (2011), Osthe (2011), Podaa Podi (2012), Vaalu (2015). They last shared screen space in Idhu Namma Aalu, which was released in 2016. Silambarasan had also worked as a music director in Santhanam's Sakka Podu Podu Raja in 2017.
