The first look at the newest entrant into the Vada Chennai (2018) universe, Arasan, has been released across theatres in Tamil Nadu. Vetri Maaran is writing and directing the film which stars Silambarasan TR in the lead.
In true Vada Chennai (2018) fashion, Arasan is also set across two timelines, with Silambarasan playing the same character across those timelines— as a young man with a funk, and later the actor as an aged man embracing the greys. The aged man is shown to be appearing at the court for 3 murders, which he is accused of doing, where he speaks to director Nelson. Silambarasan's character tells Nelson to make his life into a film, after telling his story, and requests the director to cast Dhanush in the film. The promo ends with the line "An untold tale from the world of Vada Chennai (2018)" appearing on screen.
The film also features Anirudh's music, that is starkly different from that of Santhosh Narayanan, but nevertheless appropriate for the world of Arasan.
The film is produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu under his V Creations banner. Arasan will also be the first collaboration between Vetri Maaran and Anirudh.
Silambarasan was originally supposed to collaborate with Vetri Maaran for Vada Chennai (2018). Dhanush later starred in the lead role as Anbu, a carrom board player, who goes on to become the leader of a community of fisherfolk, after their lives are threatened. Parallely, Anbu also becomes a gangster after false alliegances and betrayals force him to don the role.
The video is all set to be released on YouTube at 10.07 am on October 17.
