Amid major anticipation, Dhanush's upcoming 55th film with Rajkumar Periasamy was given the title Om. However, as soon as it was announced, the title sparked comparisons with Kannada star Upendra's iconic film of the same name, released 30 years ago.

Revealing the reason for his decision to choose the title, the Amaran filmmaker set the record straight, dismissing any connections to the Shivarajkumar-led film. "The title was chosen because it was the most appropriate word for the story's setting and environment. I understand that many titles have been repetitive including my previous film Amaran, which was taken from Karthik's 1992 film. Take even the recent hit Love Today for that matter. Dhanush's films too carry that pattern," he clarified.

He further underlined that the title was not chosen for "sensationalism". "I always choose the title and then write the screenplay and this Om title too was written before I wrote the final draft of the project. This specific title deeply connected with the script," he added.

For the unversed, Upendra's Om was a major commercial hit when it released back then. Even now, it has a dedicated fan following among audiences for its story and screenplay. Om also holds a Limca record for getting re-released more than 550 times and interestingly featured real-life gangsters playing pivotal roles.

Apart from Dhanush, Om also stars Sai Pallavi and Mammootty in important roles. Sreeleela, who made her Tamil debut with a role in Parasakthi (2026), is also part of the cast, as is Indrans.

Besides, Om brings Rajkumar Periasamy back together with Sai Pallavi after their collaboration on Amaran (2024), where the actor plays Major Mukund's wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese. On the other hand, it marks Mammootty's return to Tamil cinema after 2018's Peranbu, as well as reuniting Dhanush with Sai Pallavi after Maari 2 (2018).

The film is produced by Dhanush himself under the Wunderbar Films banner and Shraddha Agrawal of R Take Studios. On the technical front, it has composer Sai Abhyankkar, cinematographer Ezhil Arasu, editor Kalaivanan, choreographer Sandy, and stunt director Yannick Ben.
