Dhanush, who was last seen in Kara, helmed by Vignesh Raja, is currently busy filming for his next, tentatively titled D55. Helmed by Rajkumar Periasamy of Amaran fame, the film also stars Mammootty, Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela in lead roles.
While the film's shooting is progressing at a brisk pace, reports now suggest that the film's title will be unveiled this week. Initially, speculations were rife that the title would only be revealed on Dhanush's birthday on July 28. But it looks like the makers have chosen this week for the title reveal.
According to reports, the film has been titled 'Chezhiyan' after Dhanush's character name in the film. Additionally, some rumours suggest that he plays a spy under the alias Thirukumaran, working undercover in Mammootty's gang. These speculations come after reports suggested that Sai Pallavi plays a cop in the film. However, the makers are yet to confirm the same.
Sai Pallavi is uniting with Dhanush for the second time after Maari 2 (2018) and the director after their hit collaboration in Amaran. Sreeleela will be working on her sophomore project in Tamil after the recent Sivakarthikeyan-starrer Parasakthi. Meanwhile, Mammootty is making his comeback to Tamil cinema seven years after director Ram's critically-acclaimed drama Peranbu (2019). Recently, Indrans said he was in talks to join the film.
While plot details of D55 are currently unknown, the director had previously revealed, "My previous film was about a hero, a gallantry award recipient (Amaran). My next is about many unsung heroes who blend in within society. The protagonist will represent one such hero." Details regarding the rest of the cast members, the plot and a tentative release date have been kept under wraps.
D55 will be backed by Dhanush's Wunderbar Films, in association with RTake Studios. Sai Abhyankkar is the music composer of the film.
