Just days after breaching the Rs 150 crore mark in Tamil Nadu, Suriya's Karuppu has raced past the Rs 175 crore milestone and is continuing its successful run in theatres. Three weeks after its release, the action drama from director RJ Balaji is continuing to steadily bring in significant footfalls in theatres.

As reported earlier, Karuppu's box office success has ended a prolonged dry spell in Tamil Nadu, rewriting several records in the process. The film overtook the 13-year-old lifetime collections of Singam 2 within just four days of release, officially becoming the highest-grossing film in Suriya’s career. It then raced past the global earnings of films like MersalPetta, and Thunivu to enter the Rs 200 crore club in only eight days. Adding to its achievements, Karuppu has also become Suriya’s top-grossing film in Kerala.

The cast and crew have been basking in the fame and success of the film's positive reception since its release. Recently, Suriya gifted Mahindra BE6 model cars to editor Kalaivanan, cinematographer GK Vishnu and composer Sai Abhyankkar.

In Karuppu, Suriya portrays the titular guardian deity who descends to Earth to help a distressed family when they call out for his help. However, he soon realises the rigged nature of the legal system which has been guarded by corrupt individuals for decades, and decides to reform them.

The cast of the film also includes TrishaIndrans, Swasika, Sshivada, Anagha Maya Ravi, Supreeth Reddy, Natty Natraj, among others. The filmmaker portrays the antagonist, Baby Kannan.
