Just a day after the release of Vijay's much-awaited final film, Jana Nayagan, the film's director H Vinoth has already started sharing his thoughts on various decisions he has made in the film with regard to casting, political scenes, violence and more.

Jana Nayagan, initially slated for release on January 9, was delayed due to censorship issues and piracy. The film finally opened in theatres on July 23 to much fanfare and celebration. Although the film has not been received well by critics, it has made more than Rs 40 crore in India alone on the first day.

For the unversed, Jana Nayagan has been inspired by Anil Ravipudi's Bhagavanth Kesari, headlined by Nandamuri Balakrishna. Although it is not a scene-by-scene remake, a lot of the film's storylines and characters are based on the 2023 Telugu film. H Vinoth, however, has brought in his unique style to a lot of scenes to make the film stand apart and to also suit Vijay's image.

One such scene is the introductory scene where Vijay can be seen juxtaposed to late actor and former chief minister MG Ramachandran (MGR), which is different from how the scene was in Bhagavanth Kesari. "In the original film, there is a lion. The idea was to establish the hero as someone with the qualities of a lion, and Balayya sir's image suited that perfectly," H Vinoth explained to Cineulagam.

Further elaborating on why they chose MGR, he added, "So the question was, 'Who is Vijay, sir?' 'How do people see him?' Today, many people view Vijay sir as someone entering politics in the mould of MGR. He himself is also very fond of MGR personally. When we considered all these factors, we felt using MGR's imagery would be perfect. That's why we brought MGR into the opening."

Jana Nayagan, backed by KVN Productions, also stars Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Narain, among others. The film features music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography handled by Sathyan Sooryan and editing by Pradeep E Ragav.
