Legendary boxer Mary Kom, who recently came back to limelight with her participation in the popular reality show Big Boss, was recently evicted from the show. Upon her eviction, the boxer interacted with media, speaking about the show experience, among other subjects. During the interaction, Mary Kom expressed her displeasure at her 2014 biopic, starring Priyanka Chopra.
Speaking to Screen, the boxer said, “The biopic was not real. I felt some parts of the story were not real. Only 10 per cent of my struggle and hard work was shown in it. If you read the book, only then can you see my struggle and hard work."
The boxer also ruled out any possibility of a sequel to the biopic Mary Kom. She added, “I don’t think there should be a sequel now; everybody knows my story. My career and journey have already been shown in the film and my book Unbreakable.”
Mary also stated that her reasons for choosing to appear on Bigg Boss included a desire to showcase her true persona to the audience. “I wanted people to know about my journey. The boxing journey is different, but a lot of people across the world must not know the actual Mary Kom. Now, after the show, they know that I am not just a boxer, but also a mother and a human being. For the last so many years, people assumed that I wouldn’t know cooking or basic household work. This was the opportunity to prove the assumptions wrong,” she said.
Directed by art director-turned filmmaker Omung Kumar, Mary Kom received largely positive reviews and emerged as a successful film at the box office. Made on a reported budget of Rs 38 crores, Mary Kom garnered nearly 61 crores nett at domestic box office, according to Boxofficeindia.
