CM Vijay's farewell film Jana Nayagan has opened to record breaking numbers across India after it hit theatres following a six-month-long-delay. The celebratory mood was high across Tamil Nadu and other neighbouring states as fans, audiences and noted celebrities made a beeline to watch their favourite star on screen one last time.
On Day 1, Jana Nayagan collected a net of Rs 41 crore across 13,067 shows, according to Sacnilk, re-establishing the actor-turned-politician's box office dominance. This brings total India gross collections to Rs 48.27 crore. The actioner has achieved a staggering worldwide gross collection of Rs 78.27 crore, with the overseas market accounting for a strong Rs 30 crore revenue, playing a crucial role in boosting the numbers.
The Tamil version, undoubtedly brought in the most collections with Rs 36.50 crore, followed by steady contributions from the Telugu and Hindi dubbed versions (Rs 2.75 crore and Rs 1.75 crore respectively).
While the day 1 numbers are a promising marker for film's successful run for the next few weeks, Jana Nayagan has failed to surpass the benchmark set by his previous hits The Greatest of All Time, directed by Venkat Prabhu and Leo, helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. While GOAT earned over Rs 50 crore gross on its opening day in the country, Leo made Rs 66.50 crore. Since its release, Jana Nayagan has been receiving mixed reviews with fans praising Vijay's screen presence, but criticising its screenplay.

The film boasts a star-studded ensemble featuring Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, and Bobby Deol, alongside Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani. The film is backed by Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions, in its foray into Tamil cinema.
A partial remake of 2023 National Award-winning Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari, headlined by Nandamuri Balakrishna, it follows a former police officer who raises the daughter of a deceased friend and encourages her to overcome childhood trauma and pursue a career in the Indian Army. Jana Nayagan is first of his films to be released after he assumed office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
