Vijay's swansong, Jana Nayagan, is finally all set to open in theatres on July 23. The release comes six months after its initial release, scheduled for January 9. The film's release was delayed due to censorship issues. Furthermore, the H Vinoth directorial faced a huge setback after it was leaked in its entirety on piracy sites.
With the release set in three days, H Vinoth has now opened up about Vijay's reassuring nature off-screen, recalling how the actor personally reached out to him when Jana Nayagan encountered unexpected setbacks during production.
In a recent interview with Cinema Vikatan, Vinoth said both Vijay and Ajith Kumar are known for looking out for the people they work with. Recalling his experience with Vijay, he said the actor would immediately think about how a problem affected the team rather than himself.
"Whenever something unfortunate happened—whether it was a delay in getting the censor certificate, a leak, or any similar issue—Vijay sir would call me and say, 'Don't worry. Everything will be fine. These things happen. We'll deal with it,'" Vinoth recalled. He added that the actor's ability to reassure those around him is one of the reasons he commands such respect in the industry.
In the same interview, Vinoth also shed light on one of the biggest technical challenges behind Jana Nayagan. He revealed that although the film features nearly 24 elaborate sets, the objective was not to make them appear grand but to ensure audiences believed they were real locations. "Usually, a set is built to look spectacular. Here, the challenge was to make sure it didn't look like a set at all," he explained. Since filming in locations such as prisons or on busy public roads with Vijay would have been impractical, the team recreated several environments from scratch.
Vinoth credited cinematographer Sathyan Sooryan, with whom both he and Vijay reunited after Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru and Master, respectively, for helping bring those locations to life. According to the director, Sathyan's understanding of CGI extensions and visual continuity made it easier to seamlessly blend the sets with digital enhancements, giving the film a realistic visual texture.
Jana Nayagan, touted as Vijay's final film before his full-time political career, is produced by KVN Productions. The film stars Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Narain and Monisha Blessy, with music by Anirudh Ravichander.
