The long wait for Vijay's final film, Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, is all but over. With the film set to release on July 23, advance bookings for it have been opened, announced producer KVN Productions, earlier this Saturday. Making the announcement, Venkat K Narayana's production banner wrote, "Let the celebrations begin nanba nanbis."

With it being Vijay's last film, as announced before the Tamil Nadu State Assembly Elections, there is much excitement among fans who are eagerly looking forward to celebrating it in theatres. Every Vijay release calls for a celebration for fans, more so the superstar-turned-chief minister's loyalists, but the early box office figures hint at a massive anticipation for Jana Nayagan. According to a report from the industry tracker Sacnilk, the film has already earned 6.7 crore through its India theatrical reservations alone.

Jana Nayagan was supposed to release in Pongal this year, but a battle between the producer and the Censor Board contributed to a delay in it. After the prolonged battle, the film certification authority in India has finally cleared it for release, while presenting it with an 'A' certificate. The last Vijay film to receive an 'A' certificate from the board is 2002's Bagavathi.

A remake of Anil Ravipudi's National Award-winning film Bhagavanth Kesari, the upcoming film also stars Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, and Narain, among others. On the technical front, the film has composer Anirudh, cinematographer Sathyan Sooryan, editor Pradeep E Ragav, stunt choreographer Anl Arasu, and production designer V Selvakumar.

Recently, producer Venkat K Narayana told NDTV that there have been multiple changes to the film, including songs and a reference to Vijay's party TVK, after its censorship process. He also revealed that they added 'Honourable Chief Minister' next to Vijay's name in the Jana Nayagan poster, announcing the release date, due to requests from the actor's fans and general audiences.
