Three months after its release in theatres and recently making its OTT premiere, Ryan Gosling's Project Hail Mary continues to be discussed widely on social media. The sci-fi film directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller was a massive critical and commercial success, earning over $680 million worldwide. Director Selvaraghavan, who recently caught the film, was all in praise for the movie, but his particular appreciation for Ryan Gosling had not gone down well with social media users, who criticised his words.
In his recent post on X, Selvaraghavan wrote, "Just finished watching Project Hail Mary. Wow! What a beautiful film! Never knew Ryan Gosling could act so well." His last line on Gosling met with severe backlash on social media who said his words came from ignorance as the actor has been working in Hollywood films since the '90s. It ignited a major online debate, triggering netizens who expressed their anger against the filmmaker.
Project Hail Mary tells the story of a teacher Ryland Grace (Gosling) with much knowledge of microbiology who is tasked with a mission to solve a mysterious phenomenon that causes the sun to die out. When the astronaut wakes up in a different galaxy, he has little memory of who he is and what happened to his space ship's crew. However, his memory starts to come back to him gradually, and he soon befriends an alien named Rocky (James Ortiz) that helps him with the mission. Besides Gosling and Ortiz, the film also stars Sandra Huller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, Milana Vayntrub, and Priya Kansara, among others. The film recently premiered on Prime Video.
On the work front, Selvaraghavan was last seen in Manithan Deivamagalam and Love Oh Love which is currently running in theatres. He is filming two films Mental Manadhil and 7G Rainbow Colony 2.
