When actor-turned-politician Vijay assumed office as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu in May, fans of the actor were relieved, as they thought Jana Nayagan would complete censorship formalities and have a theatrical release without further troubles. However, for nearly two months, no update came on the film front.
Finally, as July commences, speculations have also begun that H Vinoth's Jana Nayagan may finally see the light of day. As per many reports, the film is likely to be censored by this month and may also be scheduled to open in theatres soon.
If reports are to be believed, Jana Nayagan is likely to receive an 'A' certificate. Such a certificate restricts screenings to adults aged 18 and older in India. The certification comes nearly six months after it was denied by the Central Board of Film Certification, who demanded a rescreening of the film just days before its initially scheduled release on January 9.
The producers of Jana Nayagan approached the courts, asking them to rule in favour of the CBFC granting a censor certificate in haste to exhibit the film in theatres on the scheduled date. However, as the court case did not rule in the film's favour, the film's release date was postponed and later delayed indefinitely. Further, the film's leak online on privacy sites delayed the release even more, incurring major loss to the makers.
If censored by this week, Jana Nayagan may be scheduled for a July 16-17 or a July 23-24 release. However, many films such as Arjunan Per Paththu, G.D.N, Arulvaan, Anbe Diana, Immortal, and Sathyavan Savithiri have been scheduled for release on the said dates. Even on July 31, DC and Sigma are gearing up to open in theatres. So either these films have to reschedule their release or Jana Nayagan has to look for an August release date.
Jana Nayagan also stars Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Menon, Priyamani, and Bobby Deol, among others. The film is backed by KVN Productions and will feature editing by Pradeep E Ragav, camera work by Sathyan Sooryan and music by Anirudh Ravichander. Based on Anil Ravipudi's Bhagavanth Kesari, the film will see Vijay playing the role of a police officer.
