There is continued uncertainty over the release of Vijay's final film, Jana Nayagan. Meanwhile, actor-turned-chief minister Vijay's birthday is on June 22. With the special occasion being just around the corner, Vishnu Kamal of Kamala Cinemas in Chennai announced that five of the superstar's popular films will be screened at the theatre on the day. The titles comprise Mersal, Kaththi, Jilla, Sachein, and Theri.
Announcing the news, Vishnu wrote, "Celebrating the Birthday of our Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thalapathy Vijay Sir. Thalapathy has inspired millions, and I’m proud to be one of them. As a Thalapathy fanboy, celebrating his birthday on the big screen has always been my own little way of celebrating my hero 5 Shows. 5 Movies. One Grand Celebration."
Reservations for the films are open at present and the theatre is set to add further shows for them in the near future. Soon after the theatre owner announced the news, seats have been booked at a rate of knots, with Kaththi and Mersal being filled out already.
Interestingly, the announcement comes amidst the rumours about Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth. There has been some speculation about whether the superstar's 'swan song' film will release on or before his birthday. According to the latest reports, the team behind KVN Productions is attempting to get the censorship certificate for the film soon. Reportedly, in the event that they get the certificate this Friday, the makers eye a June 26 release; otherwise, they plan to release it on or before July 03, Friday. However, reports also say that if the makers fail to obtain the censorship certificate by Friday, Vijay plans to refund the distribution companies for the film.
The distributors have reportedly made a plea to Vijay about the money that they have invested in the film, and the actor is speculated to give it back to them if the censorship clearance does not come.
