Tamil Nadu's minister for film technology and the Cinematograph Act, Rajmohan, has given an update on the release of Chief Minister Vijay's long-delayed final film, Jana Nayagan. He addressed the same in his speech at the launch of Romeo Pictures' next production.
"The film can be released only after obtaining censor certification. If the censor certificate is granted, we can release it. The related work is also underway. This is not just about the film Jananayagan. We cannot do such things to any film for political reasons or any other reasons. It can only be released after obtaining all the required certifications properly and legally. The work for that is currently in progress," Rajmohan said.
Recently, speculations were rife that the film will open in theatres around Vijay's birthday, on June 22. The reports surfaced after the District ticketing app listed Jana Nayagan for a June 19 release, while BookMyShow has updated the film’s release month as June. However, no official confirmation has been made by the makers.
First, Jana Nayagan's release, scheduled for January 9, was postponed after the Central Board for Film Certification withheld the film's censor certificate. Following a legal battle, the makers decided to withdraw the case, awaiting clearance from the CBFC for the film's release.
Furthermore, on April 9, the entirety of the film was leaked online in HD print. The film's piracy caused a huge loss for the makers, as the film was not only leaked online but was also shared repeatedly on social media. As per several reports, the OTT deal for the film, which was initially dropped after the film's postponement, has further been reduced due to the film's piracy.
Besides Vijay and Pooja, the upcoming film from director H Vinoth also stars Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Prakash Raj, and Narain, among others.
