Silambarasan's Silambattam set for re-release in theatres after 18 years

Silambarasan TR's hit film Silambattam, directed by S Saravanan is all set for a re-release in theatres after 18 years. Sharing a new poster, the makers announced that the 2008-released action drama will hit theatres on February 6, a few days after the actor's 43rd birthday.

S Saravanan, a well-known cinematographer, made his directorial debut with Silambattam which starred Simbu in dual roles as father and son. In the film, Vichu (Simbu), a young priest, is raised by his grandfather. When an unruly incident occurs in the temple premises, he is forced to reveal his true identity and a secret from his past. Prabhu, Sneha and Sana Khan also played key roles while Kishore was seen as the antagonist. Santhanam, Nedumudi Venu and Ponvannan played supporting roles with Premji Amaren in a special appearance.

Since its release, the film has become a fan-favourite, with tunes of Yuvan Shankar Raja continuing to ring a nostalgic note.

Ever since the announcement was made, fans have been expressing their excitement on social media by sharing clips and photos from the film.

Silambarasan was last seen in the lead role in Kamal Haasan-Mani Ratnam's Thug Life. Up next, he has Vetri Maaran's Arasan which is currently in production. Set in the world of Vada Chennai, also stars Vijay Sethupathi along with Andrea Jeremiah, reprising her role as Chandra from Vada Chennai, and Tourist Family-fame Yogalakshmi.
