Suriya's Vishwanath and Sons has witnessed a significant jump in its box office collections on its second day. After opening to a promising Rs 17.74 crore gross in India on Friday, the Venky Atluri directorial registered Rs 25.73 crore on Saturday, recording a 45 per cent day-on-day growth.
According to trade website Sacnilk, Vishwanath and Sons has collected a total India gross of Rs 43.47 crore in two days, while its India net stands at Rs 37.60 crore. The film has also performed strongly in overseas markets, taking its worldwide gross to Rs 74.47 crore, with Rs 31 crore coming from international territories.
The Saturday jump has been visible across the key domestic markets. Tamil Nadu contributed Rs 9.50 crore on Day 2, compared to Rs 7 crore on Day 1. Karnataka witnessed an even stronger rise, moving from Rs 7.25 crore to Rs 10.75 crore. Kerala also registered a substantial increase, with collections rising from Rs 1.80 crore on Friday to Rs 3.25 crore on Saturday. The rest of India contributed Rs 2.23 crore on Day 2.
The film's overall occupancy also improved considerably, rising from 42.2 percent on Friday to 59 percent on Saturday across 5,157 shows. The stronger turnout suggests that positive word of mouth is helping the film gain momentum as the opening weekend progresses.
As reported earlier, Vishwanath and Sons follows Sanjay Vishwanath (Suriya), a competitive pistol shooter who won a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. His life takes an unexpected turn when his only child, Abhay, is diagnosed with a serious health condition, prompting him to reconnect with Maddy (Mamitha Baiju), his child's surrogate mother, and confront complicated emotions from the past.
The film has received largely positive reactions for its wholesome family drama, engaging screenplay and sensitive handling of its central subject, although its predictable portions and slower second half have drawn criticism.
With Sunday ahead and the Independence Day holiday period providing further momentum, Vishwanath and Sons is expected to continue its upward trajectory at the box office. The film has already crossed Rs 74 crore worldwide in two days and will be aiming to consolidate its position over the remainder of the opening weekend.
Besides Suriya and Mamitha Baiju, the film stars Radikaa Sarathkumar, Rajiv Menon, Raveena Tandon, Nasser, Sudha, Raghu Babu, Sunil Reddy, Bhavani Sre, Viva Harsha, Kaali Venkat, George Maryan, Hyper Aadhi, Sreeja Ravi, Sarvadaman Banerjee, Mathew Varghese, Kalyani Natarajan, Karate Karthik and Master Charvik. The film has music composed by GV Prakash Kumar, cinematography by Nimish Ravi and editing by Naveen Nooli.
