Director Arun Matheswaran's DC has earned more than 50 crore at the global box office in four days of its release, announced producer Sun Pictures earlier this Tuesday. The production banner made the announcement with the caption, "#DC is exploding at the Box Office! Watch it now in theatres near you!"
The film marks Lokesh Kanagaraj's debut as a lead actor, after he made cameo appearances in other films. It follows an outcast, named Devadas (Lokesh), who embarks on a quest for redemption and justice soon after taking revenge against those who hurt an innocent family. A bloody and gory take on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel Devdas, the film also stars Wamiqa Gabbi, Sanjana Krishnamoorthy, Krish Dayal, Avinash Raghudevan, and Thalaivasal Vijay, among others.
DC has been earning plenty of appreciation for Anirudh's work as a composer. According to reviewers, the music director has delivered an output that is woven well into the narrative, with 'Raaga of Revenge' being the standout number in the soundtrack.
Another aspect of the film that audiences have been appreciating is Mukesh G's cinematography. In our review, Avinash Ramachandran wrote, "Anirudh’s soundtrack is the lifeline of DC. It is through his music that we acclimatise ourselves to the raw and gritty nature of Devadas (a competent Lokesh Kanagaraj) and the dreamy yet dreary life of Parvathi (a lovely Sanjana)." The review also added, "DC also boasts of terrific visuals," with a special note on "the interval block where lighting a matchstick illuminates Devadas and Chandra against a car’s mirror" and "the climactic sequence where we see a novel approach to the spreading of smoke and debris after a bomb blast."
