Lokesh Kanagaraj, who made his directorial debut with Maanagaram in 2017, has now made his debut as an actor with DC, nine years later. The filmmaker stars in the lead role in the film, helmed by Arun Matheswaran. Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy also play lead roles in the film.
The film, which hit theatres on Friday, follows an outcast named Devadas (Lokesh Kanagaraj), who fights to keep an innocent family safe after they become victims of police brutality. At the same time, he and his compatriots get away from a ruthless police officer, finding justice and redemption and forming unlikely connections during their journey.
Aadukalam Naren, Thalaivasal Vijay and Kasthuri Raja also play key roles in DC, which has earned nearly Rs 44 crores worldwide, slowly inching towards collecting half a century. Now, even as the film's collections are increasing due to word-of-mouth, it looks like the core team may reunite for another film.
As per several reports, Arun Matheswaran may reunite with Lokesh Kanagaraj for the actor's sophomore film as an actor, with Anirudh Ravichander and Sun Pictures' Kalanithi Maran also onboard. However, the reports are yet to be confirmed by the makers.
Anirudh's music and background score for the film were particularly commended by audiences and critics alike, who called his work the backbone of the film. Arun Matheswaran was previously set to helm the Ilaiyaraaja biopic headlined by Dhanush. However, details about the film's development are scanty. Meanwhile, Lokesh, who last helmed Coolie, is working on AA23 with Allu Arjun. As per speculations, if this project materialises, he will commence shooting for it after completing his debut Telugu directorial.
The technical crew of DC also comprises cinematographer Mukesh G, editor GK Prasanna, and stunt choreographer PC Stunts. DC, which marks Arun's fourth directorial after Rocky (2021), Saani Kaayidham (2022), and Captain Miller (2024), is currently playing in theatres.
