Six years have passed since the demise of veteran actor Irrfan Khan. The Piku actor, who was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer in 2018, breathed his last at 53 years after a colon infection on April 29, 2020. While the actor is no more, his legacy lives on as members of the film industry and outsiders remember him alike on his death anniversary.
Among them is Vinod Kumar, a popular astrologer, who recalled how Irrfan Khan was during the final days of his life. “I remember speaking to him when he was going through his health struggles. Even in that difficult phase, he carried himself with remarkable dignity. He was very humble, extremely down to earth, and always polite in his words,” Vinod Kumar said.
He further remarked that Irrfan’s humility was remarkable given his international stature. He said that the actor stayed true to himself and consistently showed respect and kindness to others, regardless of his success.
A graduate of the National School of Drama, Irrfan made his screen debut in Salaam Bombay (1988). He would continue to make his mark over three decades of Indian cinema with films like The Goal (2000), Maqbool (2003), The Namesake (2007), Paan Singh Tomar (2011), The Lunchbox (2013), Piku (2015), and Hindi Medium (2017).
In the west, Irrfan has been a part of big-ticket projects like Slumdog Millionaire, Jurassic World, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Life of Pi.
After his work in the 2018 film, Karwaan, Irrfan Khan made his comeback in Angrezi Medium (2020), which marked his last film before his demise. Murder at Teesri Manzil 302 is the last film in his filmography, released posthumously in 2021.
