Anurag Basu revealed in an interview recently that it was Irrfan Khan who gave him the idea to make the sequel to Life in a…Metro. Irrfan starred in the 2007 romantic-musical which narrated the stories of nine people living in Mumbai, going through love and heartbreak. In an interview with News18, Anurag said, “After Jagga Jasoos, Irrfan and I were chatting, and he suddenly said, ‘Metro 2 banaate hai’ (Let’s make Metro 2). It wasn’t right after Life in a… Metro. This was years later. But it was his suggestion that planted the seed for this film.”
He added, “I didn’t have any plans of making a trilogy. I was scared if Life in a…Metro would even work. It was something very different. But after that, I got the hang of it. I started enjoying writing hyperlinked films. Then Ludo happened.”
There were rumors in 2017 that Irrfan and Konkona Sen Sharma were returning for a sequel of Life in a…Metro. The film was eventually delayed and took another shape.
Meanwhile, the spiritual sequel, Metro…In Dino is set to be released in theatres on July 4. It stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, Anupam Kher, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona, and Neena Gupta in pivotal roles.
