Earlier this Wednesday, the makers of Drishyam 3 dropped the teaser for the film, directed by Jeethu Joseph and starring Mohanlal in the lead role. The Drishyam 3 teaser begins with parts from the pre-climax scenes of the first two films and hints at what its plot might follow. Towards the end of the teaser, Mohanlal's character, Georgekutty, talks about his and his family's arduous journey so far.
"My battle has started the day I was born. I had nobody to call family. I earned this family through sheer struggle and hard work. When an instance came that could destroy it, I acted without thinking twice about my actions. Meanwhile, I did not realise whom I am hurting. Now, I am scared. I don't know who else is keeping an eye on me," says Georgekutty. In one shot, he is praying at a church, seemingly expressing remorse for his past actions.
Soon, we get shots of Georgekutty's wife, played by Meena, their children, played by Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil, and Varun's (Roshan Basheer) father and mother, portrayed by Siddique and Asha Sharath. Each of them appears haunted by the disturbing events from the past.
The film also brings back Murali Gopy's police officer, who looked into Varun's murder in the second part. Director Jeethu recently revealed that it will not be a murder mystery but will rather be a family drama. At least, the Drishyam 3 teaser does not set any other impression about the film. Jeethu also told people to lower their expectations regarding the film.
It brings back the core technical team of Drishyam 2, including cinematographer Satheesh Kurup, editor Vinayak VS, and composer Anil Johnson (Anil also worked on the first part).
Produced by Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas and presented by Dr Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios and Panorama Studios, Drishyam 3 is slated for a May 21 release in theatres, coinciding with Mohanlal's birthday. Before it, director Mahesh Narayanan's Patriot, starring Mammootty and Mohanlal, among others, is hitting theatres.
