The audio launch for Suriya's next, Karuppu, which marks his 45th outing, was held recently in Madurai. The film is helmed by RJ Balaji and also stars Trisha Krishnan, Indrans and Balaji himself in prominent roles. Speaking at the audio launch, RJ Balaji shared details about signing Sai Abhyankkar for the film, why they haven't added the release date to the posters and more.

RJ Balaji started out by saying that a divine force in Madurai guided him throughout the journey of making Karuppu. “I had come to the Karuppusamy temple two years ago. At that time itself, I told the producers that the audio launch of this film should happen in Madurai. Throughout this film, Karuppusamy has held my hand and walked with me. I believe that is my biggest strength," he explained.

On the supporting actors of the film, Indrans and Trisha, among others, he said, “Actor Indrans has done a superb job in the film. I was amazed by his performance. Trisha could not join us today, but I thank her deeply. It is not easy to be Trisha — it is not easy to stay at the top for 23 years. This will be one of her best roles in recent times.”

He then spoke about Sai Abhyankkar and revealed that the young composer has already signed several films. “Sai Abhyankkar had 1 film when we signed him — and now he has already signed 73 films. I went to his home, and a helicopter is standing there. He is a gifted composer. People will be shaken when his song releases, but his song creates a massive impact in just 15 minutes. We now feel he is our masterstroke," RJ Balaji shared.

Lastly, addressing the delay and why the release date has not made it to the posters, he explained, “After the Valimai update, the Karuppu update was the one asked for the most. The journey of two years was very tough. Yes, SR Prabhu and I fought, debated — everything. But we are in a good space now. I got a family through Karuppu."

He continued, “Fans are asking why we didn’t announce the date on the posters – but if we did, the Censor Board would have come knocking. We will put it out soon. Get your crackers ready. A celebration is coming. May 14.”

The supporting cast for Karuppu includes Yogi Babu, Sshivada, Lubber Pandhu fame Swasika, Natty, Supreeth Reddy, and Anagha Maya Ravi. Cinematographer GK Vishnu, editor R Kalaivanan, production designer Arun Venjaramoodu, and stunt choreographers Anbariv and Vikram Mor round out the crew of Karuppu.
