As Suriya's Karuppu gears up for a grand release on May 14, the makers held a massive audio launch in Madurai where the cast and crew members including the actor, director RJ Balaji and composer Sai Abhyankkar were present. However Trisha, who plays the female lead, gave the event a miss.

Speaking at the event, Suriya expressed his confidence on the film. "The first half of the film will be emotional, while the second half will have a lot of theatrical moments. I am really hoping that this is how it will be. Again, my brothers and sisters, it is because of you that we are here where we are today. Each film should give you varied experiences and that is why we are striving so hard," he said, and went on describe Karuppu as a "spoof" film.

"Karuppu can be called as a 'spoof' movie. It will make us laugh and think and I hope that RJ Balaji has delivered on that front. That is how we have made the film as well. I hope all of you will like it," he added.

During the same speech, he praised Madurai, explaining how he connects with the city and its people. "Everything in Madurai—the food, the politics, and the respect they show towards the “female deity”—is truly unique. I feel deeply indebted to this land of Madurai, where I have acted in so many films. For the past 28 years, it is your love and affection that have made me a hero. Seeing this fills me with immense happiness," he shared.

For the unversed, the teaser for the film revealed that Suriya will play a lawyer called Saravanan, who is looked at as a saviour, an almost deity-like who delivers justice to commonfolk. It also contains a callback to his hit film Ghajini.

The supporting cast for Karuppu includes Yogi Babu, acclaimed Malayalam actor Indrans, Sshivada, Lubber Pandhu fame Swasika, Natty, Supreeth Reddy, and Anagha Maya Ravi. The director is also playing a cameo role in the film.

Cinematographer GK Vishnu, editor R Kalaivanan, production designer Arun Venjaramoodu, and stunt choreographers Anbariv and Vikram Mor, round out the crew of Karuppu.
