Dhanush was recently in Hyderabad promoting his upcoming film, Kara, helmed by Por Thozhil-fame Vignesh Raja. The film also stars Mamitha Baiju, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Karunaas, KS Ravikumar, and Sreeja Ravi, among others. At the pre-release event in the Telugu-speaking city, Dhanush conveyed his take on the pronunciation of the film's title.
For the unversed, the title 'Kara' stands short for the name of Dhanush's character, Karasaami. However, popular pronunciations of the title range from 'Karaa' to 'Kaara'. Dhanush took the stage to clarify the exact way to pronounce the title, while also shockingly saying he wasn't bothered about how it was pronounced.
"Kara. The title of the film is a mystery to me. It has only four alphabets, K-A-R-A, but everybody gets it wrong. Some say Kaara, while some others say Karaa. Very few people say Kara. Even our film's heroine and producer say Karaa. It's just Kara. It's okay; pronounce the title however you want, but go to the theatres and watch the film. As long as you watch the film, you can call it 'Kura', 'Keera', or anything," he said.
Interestingly, the title confusion is not limited to how it is pronounced. Actor Master Mahendran also has a film with a near-identical title. Titled Karaa, the film is written and directed by Avatar and is billed as ‘India’s biggest crocodile movie’. After a long delay, it is now set to release in theatres on May 15, just two weeks after Dhanush's Kara.
Jayaram, MS Bhaskar and Prithvi Pandiarajan are also a part of Kara's cast. The film has Dhanush playing a robber during the Gulf War of 1991, which leads to a fuel crisis in Tamil Nadu, forcing him to battle for his sustenance. Alfred Prakash has written for the film along with director Vignesh. Ishari Ganesh has produced the film under the Vels Film International banner.
