Director Manu Anand, whose latest film Mr X, a spy thriller headlined by Arya, hit theatres on Friday, recently opened up about his long-standing desire to collaborate with Ajith Kumar, reflecting on their past association and expressing hope of working together in the future.

In an exclusive conversation with Cinema Express, the FIR filmmaker opened up that he, like every other filmmaker, wishes to work with the noted actor. "I wish that it comes true, but the industry is uncertain and there are a lot of factors that need to come together in order to create a film. I have already worked with him in Yennai Arindhaal (2015) and I have wonderful memories associated with him. He's always been a silent supporter, a well wisher and a guide for me," he said.

"But would he do a film with me because of that? That is not in my hands. When the right time comes, I will do a film with him. Until that happens, I will keep working on my craft and make myself credible enough. Even if he doesn't do a film with me, the relationship I have with him is important in my life," he added.

While he has discussed scripts with the star, the director noted that nothing concrete has been finalised between them.

His latest film Mr X also stars Manju Warrier, Sarath Kumar, and Gautham Ram Karthik in crucial roles. The film's trailer, which was released recently, opened with an text that establishes that the story of the film is inspired by multiple true events. We are introduced to a team of undercover field operatives whose mission is compromised and are in the process of being arrested. But circumstances change for them, and they are on the chase to retrieve a nuclear device. Will they succeed in their mission? Will they prevent the spark of a large scale war? The film also stars Athulyaa Ravi, Raiza Wilson, Jayaprakash, Kaali Venkat, and Anagha.
