Director Vignesh Shivan revealed the reasons due to which his film with Ajith Kumar did not move forward. Their collaboration was supposed to Ajith's 62nd project, but the actor later collaborated with Magizh Thirumeni on Vidaamuyarchi (2025).
In an interview with Behindwoods, the director said, "In 2018, when Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) was supposed to be made with Sivakarthikeyan sir, I was asked to change certain parts of the story. But I couldn't do that, because I am a story centric director."
He added, "There is a difference between a person spending a few months on a script, and a few years on a script. For all the films I have directed, I have worked on their script for a minimum of four years. When Podaa Podi was released in 2012, I had the script for Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal ready. But I worked on Naanum Rowdy Dhan, so I was able to work on every nook and corner of Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal's story."
Addressing the reasons why his project with Ajith did not move forward, he said, "When I was working on Naanum Rowdy Dhan, it was my dream to work with Ajith sir. I wished to work on that script as I envisioned, as I worked on that for three to four years too." He added, "There were budget issues and there were some suggestions to change the story."
Vignesh Shivan made his directorial debut with the Silambarasan TR-starrer Podaa Podi (2012). He later collaborated with Vijay Sethupathi on Naanum Rowdy Dhan (2015) and Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal (2022). His latest film, LIK, starring Pradeep Ranganathan, Krithi Shetty, SJ Suryah, and Seeman, opened in theatres on April 10.
