Dhanush-starrer Kara, helmed by Vignesh Raja, is all set for its theatrical release on April 30. In a recent conversation with Galatta Plus, filmmaker Vignesh Raja shared what Dhanush said after hearing the script. Vignesh recalled, “When I narrated the story to Dhanush sir, he really liked the script. He plays a character with shades of gray. While discussing the details, I realised I had made the character so dark that he was almost 'borderline black.' After hearing it, Dhanush sir asked, 'Are you sure this is the route you want to take?' He wasn't worried about himself; he was thinking about the merit of the story. He cautioned that if the character became too unredeemable, the audience might fail to connect with him. He suggested the character should remain more 'gray' than purely dark. We took that note, worked on it, and luckily, it really helped the film.”

During the same conversation, Vignesh Raja spoke about his favourite era of Dhanush's filmography. He reminisced, “I graduated around 2011, a time when I was lost in that same 'haze'—unsure whether to join an IT firm, pursue post-graduation, or become an assistant director. Mayakkam Enna gave me immense clarity. There is an iconic sequence around the interval: after being humiliated by a senior photographer despite his hard work, Karthik (Dhanush), goes to pick up his friend’s girlfriend during the rain. People in pursuit of a dream often seem like they are doing something meaningless to the outside world. Only the dreamer knows their own potential; to everyone else, they are just drifting."

Kara is packed with a massive supporting cast, including Suraj Venjaramoodu, Mamitha Baiju, Karunas, Jayaram, S Rajapandi, KS Ravikumar, MS Bhaskar, Sreeja Ravi, Kushmitha, Nithin Sathya, and Prithvi Pandiyarajan. With music composed by GV Prakash, the film is produced by Ishari K Ganesh under the banner of Vels Film International.
