Director Curry Barker's horror film Obsession has been the talk of the town for quite a few days now. Ever since the film's trailer dropped in India, the internet has been abuzz with the film and its promise of being subversive. By then, the film has already had its world premiere and earned many positive reviews from critics. The positive word of mouth has only grown significantly since the theatrical release of the film worldwide.

Made on a modest budget, reportedly ranging between $750,000 and $1 million, Obsession has become a massive success at the box office. According to reports, it has earned more than $108 million from theatres worldwide. Thus, it has reportedly made 100 times its production cost. According to Sacnilk, the Obsession box office collection in India stands at 5.40 crore.

Michael Johnston on Obsession director Curry Barker: He brings an infectious energy to the set

The film tells the story of a youngster (Michael Johnston) who uses a novelty toy stick to make his longtime friend (Inde Navarrette) fall in love with him. However, what starts as a case of desire turns obsessive with dark and sinister repercussions. The film also stars Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, Andy Richter, Haley Fitzgerald, and Darin Toonder, among others.

In our review, Prashanth Vallavan wrote, "Obsession belongs to a new class of horror films that unnerves you by making ordinary people behave in a slightly off-putting yet deeply unsettling way that strikes a big dose of ‘unease’ into your heart. It is the same principle that turns a warm, inviting smile into a creepy gesture when it extends for just a few more seconds."

Alongside Passenger, Curry Barker's film is among the first in a string of horror films releasing in theatres this summer. Next in line is Backrooms, which is also getting much appreciation after its world premiere.
