Dhanush's much-anticipated film Kara has generated significant buzz for its intense storyline, and for a sophomore filmmaker like Vignesh Raja, who made a memorable impact with his 2023 investigative drama Por Thozhil, the opportunity came with a massive responsibility. It required the filmmaker to craft a compelling story for the noted actor-director.

"Kara is not a film that can be treated as a routine story," Vignesh Raja remarked. "I made it with a strong sense of responsibility to create an engaging cinematic experience. When working with a big actor like Dhanush, it requires a lot of effort and intelligence. The storytelling also needs to be emotionally strong. At this stage of my career, this is a very important film for me. The collaboration and exchanges between me and Dhanush sir have been truly joyful," he shared, in a recent interview with Vikatan.

Revealing details on the plot for the first time, the filmmaker shared that Kara is set in Ramanathapuram in 1991 when Iraq and the United States were locked in an intense war. "Similar to today's West Asia war, oil depots were bombed, causing massive destruction and fires. There was a severe shortage of petrol and diesel. Against this backdrop, the story unfolds over 16 days," he said.

"Karasaami is forced to revisit certain aspects of his life that he had chosen to walk away from. He tries to protect and support the people who depend on him, and in doing so, faces various consequences and life-altering turns. I have presented this as an emotional suspense thriller, blending engaging storytelling with deep emotions," Vignesh Raja added, explaining how Karasaami is a flawed character who isn't entirely pure at heart. "The film explores how his life changes and takes unexpected directions through this transformation," he said.

Besides Dhanush, Kara also stars Mamitha Baiju as Selli, KS Ravikumar as Kandhasaami, Suraj Venjaramoodu as police officer Bharathan, Karunaas as Kasi Maayan and Jayaram as Muthu Selvan.
