On Friday, actor and politician Vijay took to his official X handle to mourn the demise of his friend and co-star Robo Shankar. The actor passed away at 08:30 pm on September 18 after battling severe health issues.

Posting from the TVK Vijay handle, the actor wrote in Tamil, "I am shocked and saddened to hear the news of the passing of my friend Mr Robo Shankar. With his sense of humour, he carved a unique place for himself from the small screen to the silver screen. He was a gentleman who mingled with everyone with affection. I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends grieving the loss of my friend Mr Robo Shankar. I pray to God that his soul may rest in peace."

Actors Vijay and Robo Shankar have starred together in Chimbu Deven's 2015 film, Puli. Additionally, Vijay has also worked with Robo Shankar's daughter, Indraja, in Atlee's Bigil.

His initial roles in films like Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara and Vaayai Moodi Pesavum led to his breakthrough in Maari (2015), where he starred alongside Dhanush in the role of Sanikizhamai.

Robo Shankar is survived by his wife, Priyanka; daughter, Indraja; and one grandson. His last rites will be conducted at his house at Valasarvakkam, Chennai, on September 19.
