Robo Shankar suffered from gastrointestinal bleed and multiorgan dysfunction, reveal doctors

Actor and noted comedian Robo Shankar breathed his last on September 18 after battling multiple health issues. While condolences have been pouring from several celebrities and fans, doctors from the hospital he was undergoing treatment at have released a medical bulletin revealing the illnesses he suffered before his death.

GEM Hospital, in their medical report stated that Robo Shankar was admitted to their hospital on September 16, Tuesday, "in a critical condition with a massive gastrointestinal bleed and multiorgan dysfunction secondary to a complex abdominal condition." Although a team of specialists monitored his condition round the clock and provided intensive medical arrangements, his condition deteriorated rapidly and passed away on Thursday at 9.05 pm, said the report.

According to sources, the 46-year-old actor was brought in to the hospital after collapsing on the sets of a new film which went into production recently.

Robo Shankar had recently battled jaundice, for which he underwent prolonged treatment. His significant weight loss during recovery had already raised concerns among fans. Despite this, he made a quick return to television and film commitments.

The actor, who is also a well-known mimicry artist, became a household name after his robot dances in shows became popular. He debuted in films with Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara (2013). He later earned fame through his roles in Vaayai Moodi Pesavum (2014) and Maari (2015).

He went on to star in films like Singam 3, Velaikkaran, Kalakalappu 2, Maari 2, Iravin Nizhal, and Singapore Saloon. His last film role was in the recently released Sotta Sotta Nanaiyuthu.

He was survived by his wife Priyanka, daughter Indraja, and one grandson. Indraja is also an actor, who is known for her role in the Vijay-starrer Bigil.
