After performing well for the first three days, the collections for Sivakarthikeyan's Madharaasi has dipped significantly, earning just Rs 4.15 crore in India on its first Monday. The film had opened to Rs 13.65 crore, followed by Rs 12.1 crore on day 2 and Rs 11.4 crore on day 3. With the first Monday's earning, its countrywide total has moved past Rs 41 crore. The AR Murugadoss-directorial was met with favourable reviews from audiences and critics, with many praising Sivakarthikeyan and Vidyut Jammwal's performance, along with appreciation for its screenplay upon its release on September 5.
Despite promising reviews and collections, Madharaasi has underperformed in comparison to Sivakarthikeyan’s 2024 blockbuster Amaran, which amassed Rs 61.55 crore domestically and Rs 104.50 crore globally within its first three days.
While Rukmini Vasanth plays the female lead, Biju Menon, Vikranth and Shabeer Kallarakkal are also part of the film, portraying key roles. Additional cast members include Prem Kumar, Sanjay and Sachana Namidass. Madharaasi marks Murugadoss' comeback to Tamil cinema after five years following Rajinikanth's Darbar (2020). Vidyut is reuniting with Murugadoss after Thuppakki (2012).
Our CE review of the film read, "This is quite a ‘different’ start to a film, but one that is absolutely in tune with whatever follows in this mad ride that hopes you have faith in the filmmaker to steer things home safely, even if it hits a few roadblocks on the way. And for the man who made films like Dheena, Ramana, Ghajini, Thuppakki, and Kaththi, Madharaasi might just be a reminder that he still has it in him."
The story follows a man suffering from Fregoli delusion who becomes entangled in a dangerous mission to stop the smuggling of illegal arms into Tamil Nadu.
The technical crew of the film includes Anirudh as the music composer, Sudeep Elamon as the cinematographer, and Sreekar Prasad as the editor.
