The production of Marshal, Karthi’s upcoming period gangster drama with director Tamizh of Taanakaran fame, has come to an abrupt halt after a technician died in a fall at the shooting location in Tamil Nadu.

According to Daily Thanthi, 40-year-old Ayyanathan from Ilayankudi in the Sivagangai district fell from the roof of a wedding hall where crew members were staying during filming near Pudukkottai. He was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, left the crew shaken; Ayyanathan is said to have died on the spot.

Police officials reached the location immediately, launched an inquiry, and moved the body to the Pudukkottai Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. Following the tragedy, filming was stopped, and both the police and production team have begun reviewing safety protocols and security arrangements at the set.

The team had been shooting important sequences for Marshal, which has been progressing rapidly in its second schedule across Sivagangai, Pudukkottai, and Rameshwaram. The unexpected loss has left the unit deeply distressed, especially as the shoot has so far been running with high momentum and enthusiasm.

Marshal features Karthi and Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead and boasts an extensive supporting cast, including Sathyaraj, Prabhu, Lal, John Kokken, and Eswari Rao. Set in the 1960s, the film aims to recreate the era with meticulous detail, backed by a substantial budget. Sai Abhyankkar is composing the music, and Sathyan Sooryan is behind the camera.

Recently, Karthi’s rugged 1960s makeover for the film went viral, raising audience expectations for the period crime drama, which is planned for release in five languages. With the first schedule completed in Chennai and the second underway in the southern districts, the film was moving at a brisk pace before this tragedy shook the crew.

Filming is expected to resume once the investigation concludes and safety measures are reassessed.
