Independent musician Sai Abhyankkar, who is yet to make his debut as a film composer with Raghava Lawrence's Benz, has been facing trolls online for receiving many big film opportunities even before the release of his first film. However, the budding music composer, who has a lineup of seven films, is confident about proving his mettle.
Speaking to Sudhir Srinivasan, Sai said, "Most of the producers and filmmakers I'm working with are veterans in their respective fields. If, as an audience member, someone wonders whether a newcomer like me deserves back-to-back big projects, then surely a producer or director would’ve thought twice before signing me on, right? These opportunities haven’t come to me through influence; they’ve come through genuine networking."
He then expressed his gratitude to Sudhan Sundaram of Passion Studios for trusting him with Benz. "I owe a lot to Sudhan sir for believing in me after hearing just 'Katchi Sera.' He trusted me with Benz and recommended me to other producers, and that’s where it all began."
Discussing how the other projects came his way, Sai Abhyankkar shared, "While the audience is yet to hear my film music, within the industry, the tracks might have been circulated among filmmakers, leading them to choose me as their composer. Some of these projects were signed a while ago; they're only being announced now. But above all, I believe this is God’s plan."
For someone in his early twenties, seven films is a lot of pressure. On how he stays confident and motivated, he added, "I have an immense hunger to create and present good music to the audience. I want to carve out a soundscape that is uniquely mine and see how people respond to it. What keeps me going with confidence, despite the huge lineup of films, is my drive to make as much music as I can. Every time I finish a song, there’s a certain high until it premieres. But once it's out, that feeling fades, and I’m already craving the next tune to work on."
Apart from Benz, Sai Abhyankkar has also been roped in as the music composer for Suriya-RJ Balaji's Karuppu, Silambarasan's STR49, Pradeep Ranganathan's Dude, Atlee-Allu Arjun's AA22xA6, Shane Nigam's Balti, and Karthi's Marshal.
