During a discussion with director-actor Mysskin, actor-producer Ramkumar Ganesan, recalled his father's time in the theatres seeing The Silence of the Lambs (1991). Mysskin was a guest on Ramkumar's podcast, Truly Ram, when Ramkumar recalled the anecdote.
While discussing fame Ramkumar Ganesan and Mysskin discussed how the former's father spent his time watching Hollywood films. Ramkumar mentioned that the last film Sivaji Ganesan watched in the theatres was Jonathan Demme's The Silence of the Lambs (1991). A very emphatic Mysskin eagerly asked Ramkumar on what Sivaji Ganesan thought about the film, Ramkumar recounted the conversation he had with his father after watching the film.
"I told him, 'Next week when the Oscar ceremony is taking place, Jodie Foster will win the Best Actress award.' After a while, he asked me, 'Who was the actor who played the villain?' When I answered that it was Anthony Hopkins, he immediately asked if he was a Shakespearean actor, to which I said yes. He was able to identify Hopkins' roots as a Shakespearean actor, because of the way he stood."
Based on Thomas Harris' novel of the same name, The Silence of the Lambs (1991) was written and directed by Jonathan Demme, and was the recipient of the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Best Actress in a Leading Role, and Best Adapted Screenplay categories at the 64th Oscars ceremony.
