It has been speculated for a while now that Pon Manickavel, starring Prabhudheva, might skip the theatrical release and opt for the OTT route. Confirming this news, the film's composer D Imman shared on his social media profile that Pon Manickavel will be out on Disney+ Hotstar.  

He said, "Pon Manickavel, coming soon on Disney+Hotstar. Direct OTT Release." The film marks Imman's third direct-to-OTT release after this year's Bhoomi and Teddy, which, interestingly, are also streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

Directed by Kanden-fame AC Mugil, Pon Manickavel features Prabhudheva in a cop avatar for the first time. With Nivetha Pethuraj playing the female lead, the film also stars director Mahendran, Suresh Chandra Menon, Baahubali-fame Prabhakar and Bijesh, grandson of veteran actor Nagesh.

The Nemichand Jhabak production venture has cinematography by KG Venkatesh, who is known for films like Sathuranga Vettai.
