Andrew Lincoln, who is best known for playing the lead in AMC's The Walking Dead, has been roped in to play Ebenezer Scrooge in a live version of A Christmas Carol, based on Charles Dickens' classic holiday novel of the same name.

The 1843 novella follows Scrooge's transformation from a greedy and lonely man to a compassionate and generous one after meeting the ghosts of past, present, and future.

Broadway World reported that The Old Vic theater in London announced Lincoln's casting in an in-camera production of A Christmas Carol, written by Jack Thorne and directed by Matthew Warchus. Reportedly, the full-scale play will be streamed live from the stage with musicians, theatrical lighting, and a cast of 18 performers.

A Christman Carol, most famously retold by the Muppets, has also seen other iconic adaptations, such as the 1983 Disney special Mickey’s Christmas Carol and the 1988 film Scrooged, starring Bill Murray.

Lincoln had exited from The Walking Dead in season 9, after 10 years of playing the protagonist, and it was announced that he will come back to portray Rick Grimes in a trilogy of The Walking Dead movies.
